Each year, Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD) organizes the annual World COPD Day (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease), in collaboration with health care professionals and COPD patient groups throughout the world. This year, the 19th World COPD day will occur on November 18th 2020.
The goal of this day is to raise awareness and present new knowledge and novel therapeutic strategies for COPD worldwide. According GOLD report, Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, or COPD, is defined as: “a common preventable and treatable disease, characterized by persistent airflow limitation that is usually progressive and associated with an enhanced chronic inflammatory response in the airways and the lung to noxious particles or gases. Exacerbations and comorbidities contribute to the overall severity in individual patients.”
The 2020 theme is “Living Well With COPD- Everybody, Everywhere” a positive message to both patients and providers in COPD management.
There are around 300 million COPD cases in the world, and COPD disease is currently the third leading cause of death globally. Finding cases early on is very important for patients’ quality of life in order to start and improve their treatments as soon as possible and get a better prognostic for the long term.
